All are Equipped to Serve

Learning to live life as a disciple of Jesus Christ takes practice and learning from another disciple. Each disciple is equipped by the Holy Spirit to serve and share Jesus Christ in his/her lives. By having a mentor to help one learn the rhythmic lifestyle of being a disciple of Jesus Christ will only serve to benefit not only both disciples but the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well.

The second phase of discipleship is learning how God has equipped you to serve Him in the world.  It is a time of exploring new ministries, ‘trying on’ different service opportunities to hear the Holy Spirit guiding you to where you are being called to serve.

The new disciple learns from a mature disciple how to live the life of a disciple.  To note the difference between doing church and being the Church. The mentor models how to serve, how to share the Good News, how one is transformed by the Holy Spirit.  The mentee, younger disciple, walks alongside and practices the life of a disciple.

Together they practice the 4 Missional Life Habits (Be Present, Listen & Learn, Serve, Share).  They study the Word of God together.  They serve together.  The mentee asks questions as they arise.  The mentor leads the learning during this time.  It is a time of the mentor doing and the mentee helping, learning by the example set before him/her.

A disciple knows s/he has been resolved by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  But during this time with a mentor a new disciple learns what that means in his/her life.  How is the Holy Spirit transforming the person? How has God already equipped the disciple to serve and share Him in the world?

It is an exciting time of learning and living.  Putting word into action. No more theory but real-life learning, serving.

So how are you learning from another disciple? Where are you going out learning a new to serve?

Have you been a disciple for awhile?  Who is God placing in your life to mentor and model the life of a disciple?

Wherever you are on your faith journey it is important to recognize God has already equipped you to serve. The Holy Spirit will break your heart for a group of people, a particular cause.  The necessary skills are given as you have need of them.  Do not fear.  Step out of your comfort zone and try something new beer.

Enjoy the experiences God has for you. Learn from a mentor.  Teach an apprentice.  And imagine the impact made in the world as all disciples of Jesus Christ are united serving and sharing Jesus Christ.
