Having the skills to accomplish a task and having the confidence in one’s self to do so can be two separate things. Equipping another disciple to serve and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ can be easy. Showing one the tools necessary involves teaching and modeling those skills.
What can be more scary to a person is actually doing it. Having the confidence in one’s self and not be afraid is a difficult step.
What if I can’t find the right words to say?
What if I’m asked a question I don’t know the answer to?
What if it becomes a debate that I can’t win?
What if…. What if…. What if….
Fear and doubt can be quite controlling. It plants those little thorns that bristle causes us to second guess. It creeps in and whispers in our ears lies to distract us from the mission God have given us.
It is vital that as we disciple another follower of Jesus Christ we empower one another to serve and share despite the thorns. We must pray with and over one another to be protected from the darts from the enemy. We pray the enemy becomes blind while throwing the darts so they do not hit us where we are vulnerable.
As we teach another the Missional Life Habits, how to serve and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ we must give them room to practice and learn. Sure mistakes will be made but that is how we all learn. We learn what works what does not work and we know better for next time.
Even the disciples stumbled and made mistakes. After His arrest they scattered for fear of the Jews. On the day He arose from the resurrection they were hiding in a locked room hoping no one would find them. Jesus came to them through that locked door reassuring them.
After Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven the disciples were equipped and fully empowered to go all the world sharing the Gospel. They were able to withstand trials because they knew they were empowered with the Holy Spirit to persevere.
The Holy Spirit is with us today empowering us to serve and share. When those fears and doubts creep back in the Holy Spirit is there to pull the weed out the ground. We are confident in ourselves not for our abilities but for the fact Christ is with us enabling us to persevere.
For those times that God asks you to step out in faith and serve in a new way, trust Him. Be not afraid. He has already empowered you to be able to do it. You are infused with the Holy Spirit as at your baptism. You are not alone.
Be empowered to serve and share as you are powered by the Holy Spirit and called by God.
